Our Pickle Fish just wrapped up her first season as a Blue Tide Swim Team member. When she first begged to join, we were hesitant. It was an intense commitment, we knew little about swimming, and there would be major traveling involved. All winter long. All over western PA - not particularly known for its gentle winters.
But we said yes and are oh so glad we did.
We learned Hilda is as reliable as ever.
We learned the difference between a meter and a yard length pool.
We learned the proper breast stroke technique.
We learned the ins and outs of lane timing.
We learned winter hats are the best way to stay warm between races.
We learned bottle flipping is an excellent way to kill time at meets.
We learned new friends can be found anywhere.
We learned Pickle has a mean 25 meter fly.
And we learned she has an incredible work ethic - swimming 2 hour practices and listening to coach's advice with no complaints.
Below is a video of my favorite race: an example of Lilly working hard right up till the end. She is in the purple swim cap in the middle of the screen, and *spoiler alert* she comes from behind to win. Ignore the crazy swim mom shrieking in the background. I don't know who that was.
