You can be sure you are making the right choice. The hard choice. The scary choice. You can have peace that you are walking the road God has asked of you.
But it doesn't mean you get the happy ending.
We are heartbroken to announce that after 6 1/2 years, our adoption journey has come to an end. The violence and upheaval in Burundi remain unchanged. We find ourselves with yet another paperwork expiration date and the thought of paying all those fees once again with no certainty that anything will improve sickens us.
After much prayer, we have decided we can no longer waste money on paperwork and government entities. We are done.
We do not make this decision lightly. We mourn. We grieve. We have been a family on hold for so long that moving on feels like giving up. We are still processing so much.
In the meantime, we have sent all our remaining adoption funds to Mercy House. These people are heroes. They are on the front lines of the orphan crisis by interceding to prevent babies from becoming orphans in the first place. Giving our money to them instead of spending it on more paperwork doesn't heal everything but it does bring us peace.
Beyond this, we do not know what God has in store for our family. We choose to believe that He is still good and He is still sovereign even when we don't get the happy ending.
Honestly, we don't understand the point of the past 6 1/2 years and most of it feels like a complete waste.
But we choose hope...
Hope that He can use our story for His glory,
Hope that we can do some good for Mercy House,
Hope that these last 6 1/2 years were more than just an exercise in obedience.
This may be an end but we choose to believe that it is not the end of The Story.
