I've decided that babies need to come with one of those "Check Engine" lights on the back of their heads. That way it will light up and you will have a concrete way of knowing that, yes, there is something seriously wrong. You need to call the doctor because your child is not just grumpy, tired, teething, etc.
Yesterday was day 3 of the transformation of our usually chipper, content little Pickle into a miserable, inconsolable, crankpot. She would emit only two sounds: a low-belly, cantankerous grunt and a high-pitched, banshee shriek. I'm not sure which we preferred. It was obvious she was unhappy but all of her symptoms could have been explained away by teething. My attempts to have her point to what pained her were completely ignored. (I'm only partially kidding. Hey, I was desperate.) After balancing that tightrope of not wanting to ignore a potentially worsening illness but also not wanting to bother the doctor with every toothache, hangnail, or bout of indigestion, we finally called Dr. Tronetti who immediately squeezed us into his already busy schedule. After a quick peek in Lilly's ear, it was official: we have our first ear infection. Now twice a day we have to get Lilly to swallow a tube-full of thick, rancid, carnation-pink liquid. Poor Pickle.
But to keep it all in perspective Janelle decided to spontaneously pray for her sister at dinner last night. It went something like this: Dear Jesus, Thank you for Lilly. (Pronounced "Wilwy") Thank you for blessing. Thank you... and ... and... Thank you for making her feel better. Please help her be better. Thank you... This is how you pray for a baby. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Our little prayer warrior.

Poor Lilly... Though Toby calls that pink medicine "bubble gum" and asked for it more than twice a day... :) And I think from Janelle's prayer, your desires and actions according to your previous post are bearing fruit!
